But often visitors are surprised to learn that many of the restaurants in Rome serve wine from the Roman countryside, including wine from Olevano Romano, with its red wine called Cesanese, and from Zagarolo and Gallicano nel Lazio with their white wines.<\/p>\n

We would like to bring you to this area, where our story leads us into the country and on a tour of the Roman vineyards…<\/p>\n

OUR ROMAN VINEYARDS TOUR<\/strong><\/h2>\n

The tour of the Roman vineyards<\/strong>\u00a0begins in\u00a0Zagarolo<\/strong>, a land dedicated to the cultivation of grapes, from where a remarkable white wine is obtained; the typical\u00a0romanella<\/em>\u00a0pales in comparison and seems like nothing more than a freshly bottled wine.<\/p>\n

To welcome us to one of\u00a0the most characteristic wine cellars of the countryside of Rome<\/strong>\u00a0is Nicoletta,\u00a0sommelier<\/em>\u00a0and business manager of the family farm, enjoy the friendly atmosphere and the hostess’s ability to make people feel comfortable.<\/p>\n

Nicoletta, with her\u00a0perfect English<\/strong>, will first lead you on a\u00a0visit to the vineyard<\/strong>\u00a0and recount the\u00a0farm’s fascinating history<\/strong>. Then you will be led into\u00a0a unique cellar dug into the tuff<\/strong>,\u00a020 meters deep into the earth<\/strong>, where barrels and bottles rest as keepers of a wine that improves day by day and year by year.<\/p>\n

A special characteristic of this Roman producer is the\u00a0sparkling wine<\/strong>\u00a0made here. It\u2019s a\u00a0real unicum, and not a typical product of the Lazio Region. Nicoletta is\u00a0able to seize the best from her grapes and produce the best\u00a0sparkling brut<\/strong>\u00a0that is also appreciated in the Italian and international levels of the industry.<\/p>\n

The first\u00a0tasting<\/strong>\u00a0takes place in the wine cellar, where you can toast to your health with a glass of the sparkling wine.<\/p>\n

Then you will go to the\u00a0tasting room<\/strong>\u00a0where you can try the other wines produced here, if desired, wines from \u00a0Lazio or from other Italian regions. All accompanied bytraditional dishes<\/strong>\u00a0that change from time to time depending on the time of year and what vegetables are in season.<\/p>\n

It is at this time that you will learn how to\u00a0taste a wine<\/strong>, how to recognize if it is good and how to feel the flavors and aftertaste that\u00a0inebriates\u00a0the senses of the wine taster. The experience is complete at 360 degrees, different from traditional wine tastings. And for a day you will feel like farmers, winemakers, and\u00a0sommeliers<\/em>.<\/p>\n

CESANESE WINE TASTING IN OLEVANO ROMANO<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Cesanese is a red wine<\/strong>, comparable to a wild foal that has to be tamed for being ridden. The vinification of the Cesanese DOC is challenging, you have to know how to tame the\u00a0tannin<\/strong>\u00a0that otherwise is so strong that it dominates the rest of the good aromas that this wine releases. In the past, thousands of liters of Cesanese wine moved from Olevano Romano to the tables of\u00a0Osterie<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Trattorie<\/em>in Rome<\/strong>\u00a0and still today every good restaurant serving traditional dishes has a good Cesano wine on its wine list.<\/p>\n

For this reason, our tastings are done only in\u00a0selected wine cellars<\/strong>\u00a0who have learned over the years how to bottle Cesanese and maintain that velvety, dry, full bodied, soft and harmonious flavour.<\/p>\n

The proposed\u00a0wine tasting<\/strong>\u00a0takes place in the charming farmhouse of a\u00a0wine producer in Olevano Romano<\/strong>, where the\u00a0sommelier<\/em>\u00a0speaks English<\/strong>. Here you will be guided through the company’s history, visit its\u00a0historic vineyards<\/strong>\u00a0where in October the selected clusters of Cesanese grapes make a great show saturating the landscape with their distinctive violet color in contrast to the leafy greenery.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0appetising\u00a0combination of Cesanese wine with traditional local products<\/strong>, including “Ventricina”, a delicious local salami, a fresh\u00a0oven-baked bread<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0extra virgin olive oil<\/strong>\u00a0that has been produced from nearby olive groves”. Here you can taste the 3 Cesanese wines\u00a0from\u00a0the wine cellar: DOC, DOC Reserve and IGT Rosato. Of course, for a more complete tasting, you will also be able to taste Cesanese wines from other\u00a0local producers,\u00a0all selected according to high quality standards.<\/p>\n
